Earlier today I was just contacted be another user of Flickr, Yahoo’s photo sharing and social network website about an old photo of me on a beach. They were asking me for “permission to use the photo in jewellery, giclee prints, and greeting cards” that she creates. Instead of saying no it’s a picture of me in my collection you can’t try and make money from it I decided to say yes! This may seem a little odd to some people, but if somebody manages to make a little money from a picture that I’m doing nothing with good luck to them. As long as I get to see whatever product it is that they make from the photo. Maybe she’ll make a “giclee print” and I won’t have to google it to find out what they are.
If you’d like to allow people to freely use your photos on flickr without having to ask first take a look at http://creativecommons.org/
